CAP Artistry's Blog is moving again.....

Ok, I agree it is annoying when websites keep changing ....but life is definitely a learning process, especially in the digital world!  So, as I try to learn and expand the artistic side of my life, there is a bit of a learning curve as I try to streamline the technology side of things for all of us ; )

Soooo...... my new Blog is now integral to my new website.
www.christinepagliaro.com (see...that shouldn't be too difficult!)

If you go to my website above, you will see a Link at the top of the web page called Christine's Blog.  Just click on it and you will be at the home of my new blog.

I love that I now have my work and my blog located in one spot!  ; )

So, please bookmark the new location and/or subscribe again to my blog once you are at the new location. Hope you continue to join me in my journey!

Talk to you soon...

Paradise....

Been working on this painting for a while (probably on and off for a year!) and I just couldn't get it "right". Was ready to frame it and I thought, if I wouldn't buy this or hang it in my house, why would someone else?!? Soooo, I switched things up a bit and now it feels "right" to me : )

Figuring things out.....

Don't worry... I have NOT forgotten about you guys!  Just trying to figure out if I want to combine a few of these "avenues" of communication for us all to enjoy......website, blog, store, etc.

Debating between staying on Blogger vs going to Wordpress vs going to a website that has many of these elements already set up within it....so confusing at times!!

But, I will be back posting soon...just don't want to get ahead of myself if I'm going to move things around a bit ; )

Talk to you soon,

Cock-A-Doodle-Do!!!! Bruce's Rooster is here.... ; )

Well, I have to say I'm pretty pleased with Bruce's Rooster.  The technique I used for the background is actually a newer style for me but I'm likin' it!!

Let me know what you think....

Excited about my new blog "Creative Inspirations with Christine"!

There are so many people who want to be creative but think they have no creative abilities or "talent"....

I disagree!  I think creativity comes in all different shapes and sizes....

From oil painting to knitting to interior decorating to gardening to cabinet making to writing and even the way someone puts an outfit together are just a few examples of how someone expresses their "inner creative self" ; )

Since I always want to learn and try different things and have a great enthusiasm for "spicing things up" in my life, I thought I could share some of my interests/activities to help inspire those who have the creative desire but may not know where to begin .....

So...stay tuned and make sure to take a look and see what I come up with ; )

Honored to be part of a memorial to one of our fallen soldiers...

I just had to share an experience that I had this past weekend while painting at the gallery..

There was a fest going on a little further down the block so people were walking by the gallery to go to the fest.  I was outside painting at my easel when a young man came over to me after standing there for a few minutes not really looking at the paintings or other people out there with me.  He said that based on what he saw me doing,  he wondered if I could do a painting for him...though it would be sad.  I was a bit surprised by the comment but said of course and asked what he was looking for....at this point, he had not even walked around my easel to see what I was painting.....and he said that a friend of his had been killed in Afghanistan and he said that he wanted a painting that would symbolize and honor what he had been doing over there.

I was, of course, taken aback and tried to think of details to ask regarding the painting....did he want a portrait?  He said no, he had been talking with his buddies and they thought symbols like a boot, rifle, torn flag would be better suited to represent what he wanted the message to embody.  We discussed colors for the painting and he indicated that he wanted very melancholy colors to indicate the sadness of the situation.  Then I asked about size...how big did he want this and he then proceeded to tell me that this was for the headstone that they are putting at his grave site!  And that it takes time for the person to get shipped back from overseas, so the funeral would be in 4 - 5 weeks and could I complete it by then so it will be embedded in the headstone.  I said of course!! and we exchanged information so that I could get more details from him and show him sketches of my ideas before doing the final painting.

I am so honored to be part of such a tremendously important event honoring one of our fallen soldiers and that my painting will be there for as long as he is buried there....representing the love, honor and respect his loved ones feel for him now and forever.

See you soon,
Christine

Stay tuned....

A co-worker of mine went to Hawaii recently and saw tons of wild roosters ...not acting crazy or anything...just free and on the loose : )

So, he commissioned me to do painting of one of them for his wife as a gift since she loved them.

I'm sure you are wondering "a painting of a rooster???  who would want that???"  But actually, they are known as feral roosters and are gorgeous....all different colors...almost reminds me of a peacock, just smaller ; )

I am almost done with it and will be posting it soon...so keep an eye out!

See you soon,
Christine

Your Tuesday "Appreciating the essence of the world around us...." CAP Artistry

Always Something New to Learn....

My mother once called me "a sponge" ....always trying to learn and absorb new ideas and information...even til this day as an adult : )

She is right...might not always remember all info that I've come across (because how much can one person truly retain in their brain throughout an entire lifetime!) but I definitely try!

So, what I've been trying to do for my sake..and now yours...is look up an art term or definition, which I will post.  So let's start it off .tonight ....

Chroma: This is the intensity, or strength, or purity of a color.  Squeezing paint directly from tube to the palette is "full chroma."

Happy Friday and enjoy the holiday weekend....at least for those of you who live in the US : )

Will talk soon,
Christine

UPDATE: Looking for Weekly Inspiration? Keep an Eye Out for My Weekly "Appreciating the Essence of the World Around Us...."

UPDATE 5/27/11

Every artist has a reason that they do what they do..... it reflects who they are, how they think and what they feel.  These ideas tend to generate an "artist's statement" which explains what's behind the artistic "curtain" : )

For me, my artist statement is "Appreciating the essence of the world around us...."  CAP Artistry

The About the Artist  section of my website http://www.capartistry.com/ gives a pretty detailed explanation of how I've come to be where I am, but the shorter version  is that "my eyes now see the world around us as a painting of sorts, with different hues, tones, colors, shadows, brights and darks.....this has led me to "appreciate the essence of the world around us....."

So, I post periodic photos or quotes that inspire me and hope they do for you as well  : )

Will be talking to you soon....

So, if you have a photo of someone or something that you would love to have an original painting of, just let me know!  Even using multiple photos to create a different image or just describe what you are looking for....

Actually....anything is possible with art  : )

Here's a couple examples of Commissioned Paintings that I've done recently for people.....totally different subject matters:

Let's Mix It Up!!

So, I've shown you some pastel paintings and photography that I've done.  Well here's some charcoal renderings for you to take a look at....  I really enjoyed these as well...there's a totally different feel to these don't you think?

Hints for the Photo Guessing Game.....

Ok, I've gotten some feedback on the photo guessing game and the abstractness of the image may make it too difficult to actually make a decent guess....so I've decided to put a hint with each photo as I post them.

So, go take a look at the last two posts and I'll add hints for them..

AND DON'T FORGET TO CLICK ON THE IMAGE SO YOU CAN ZOOM IN AND TAKE A CLOSER LOOK...

Sunny Friday!

So I see that there are some visitors from other countries as well as the US viewing my blog...very exciting!!! and thank you!!

Not sure what the weather is like by you but it's been crazy over here in the Chicagoland area....chilly and rainy (raining for days at a time...ugh)...but today is finally a taste of Spring/Summer!

We may hit 70-ish degrees and it's sunny outside so we're all pretty excited about the weekend over here  :)

Would love to hear from you guys ...opinions about the photos, other things you would like to see, etc.

Guessing Game Photo - What is the Subject??

Here's another one....let me know what you think!!

Christine

So here's a hint......"Rolling hills"

Guessing Game Photo - What is the Subject??

Ok...here's a bit more colorful one for ya.

PLEASE ONLY GUESS IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING...don't want to spoil it for anybody who might   ; )

More to come ......
Click to purchase on Ebay

HINT:  "Rocks and ??"

Guess the photo subject matter and get a discount on the purchase!

So I was thinking of things to spice up the blog and I know how much I like winning contests ; ) ....those who know me would agree!.... so I thought it would be a cool idea to have people guess the subject matter of the photos that I'm playing around with in an abstract way and win something if they guess correctly!

Since I actually have to pay for supplies and spend time on these, I can't give it away entirely because there might be some really good guessers out there!  But, I thought a discount on the purchase of the photo would be fun as well.....

So, here we go....if you guess correctly, you can buy the photo for $30 and get free shipping = total savings of $10...not bad for a unique piece of art ; )

I will specifically identify the photos that will be included in the guessing game but it will still be on Ebay to purchase as well at regular price.  Only those on my blog will see the game and be able to play!

I will be adding different photos as we go but for today, let's start with the one I have posted below.

HAVE FUN!!

Guessing Game Photo - What is the subject?

Just trying out something new....a friend's mom does photography and she did some interesting manipulations with images so I thought...why not???

What do you think this is??

Italian Eatery

Here's some of my photography work.  I love doing that as much as painting!  Let me know if there are any subject matters you would like to see me take photos of.....
Christine

A reminder of eating outside in beautiful weather in Italy...

Another way of connecting with others : )

Hi All!

Welcome to my Blog....

I'm hoping to make this more of an interactive experience vs just looking at paintings and photos on my website http://www.capartistry.com/.

I would love for you to ask me questions about art or photography or anything else for that matter!  Or what you would like to see on here or if you wonder about certain things in the "art world".  I will do my best to answer or find out for you...so we can all learn, grow and expand our horizons....isn't that what life's kind of all about??

So, welcome! and hope to hear from you!
Christine
